Kitzsteinhorn – The glacier
Perfect for any season
The highest mountains in Austria are covered with snow and ice all year round, including the Kitzsteinhorn with its glacier. The lifts are open here for up to ten months a year, which makes skiers and snowboarders happy.
Glacier experiences in summer
Up to the sea level of 3029 meters, imposing hiking trails lead over the eternal ice of the Kitzsteinhorn glacier. Once at the top, you can enjoy a truly breathtaking view that you will never forget.
Summit world 3000
The newly designed Gipfelwelt 3000 is the highest point in Salzburger Land that is easily accessible for everyone. The viewing platforms at 3000m allow unique views of the region and its mountains. Even Austria’s highest mountain, the Großglockner, can be admired from here. A special highlight of the summit world is the National Park Gallery – here you can dive into the interior of the mountain and learn a lot of interesting facts about the mountain, nature and technology at six information stations. Visit also the Cinema 3000 – an exciting film brings you closer to the high alpine nature, the beauty of the mountains and the fauna at the Kitzsteinhorn.
Icy summer on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier
In July and August, another highlight awaits you in the Zell am See-Kaprun region with the ICE Arena on the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier. On the glacier plateau you will find slides, snow beach and ice bar. Various events will take place as a supporting program.
Snow all year round on the Kitzsteinhorn near Kaprun
Even in the warm summer months there is always ice and snow on the summit of the Kitzsteinhorn at over 3000m above sea level. This makes a hike on the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier a refreshing experience. That is, suitable clothing and equipment should not be forgotten.
After your hike or ski day on the Kitzsteinhorn, you can take a dip in the cool waters of Lake Zell in the valley. Only in a few places is this unique combination possible.
